R.O. Blechman is a great illustrator most known for his cartoons in The New Yorker. Blechman had an exhibition in 1968 of his own work at Robert Delpire's gallery in Paris. Unfortunately, it was at the same time as the student riots in Paris, so no one came to see the show. Because of this, a documentary film on that exhibition was to be made and they needed images of what Blechman's life was like in NY. Blechman first asked Friedlander for some images but they didn't work for what the film director wanted. He then asked Garry Winogrand, who took Blechman to his stomping grounds of 5th Avenue and made this image outside Saks Fifth Avenue.
